One of the best parts of being a nano influencer is that I can reach out directly to brands with whom I would like to collaborate. The influencer market is saturated, and often the brands that we actually want to work with may not see our pages or come across our content. The best way to be seen by the brands you care about is to introduce yourself. There is no shame in pitching to brands. In fact, it should be encouraged because influencing is a job and getting noticed sometimes needs a direct touch.
A pain point for smaller creators is not knowing what to say in their first outreach email. There are several online resources already, so what I am sharing here is what I have used for the past two years that has successfully landed me most of my collaborations of interest. In the spirit of transparency, please note that this is not a formula that guarantees success. Brands, like any business, are hoping to gain something from you in terms of promotions. Brands that have a lot of resources or are looking to lay the groundwork in a niche community are willing to take risks and send "gifts" to anyone who shows a strong interest in their philosophy, goals, or products. But sometimes, depending on marketing goals, quantity of press samples available, your page analytics, or how well your online presence suits their brand persona, you may not get a yes. And that is ok. Give it some time and try again. Keep growing and try again. Never take a no personally; focus instead on wowing the brands that do say yes (but stay honest!).
TEMPLATE
Examples include:
[Brand] x [your handle] social media partnership
Social Media Creator Partnership
If you were referred by someone on their team, even if it were through a conversation on a social platform, include that in your subject line. For example:
Social Media Creator Partnership - referred by Amanda on Instagram
In your first paragraph, state your name and include your social handles. I would advise you to hyperlink your social handles to those pages. You can tie up the first paragraph with one succinct sentence about the purpose of your email. For instance, "I am reaching out to see if [insert brand name] would be open to a collaboration." Remember that brand social and influencer teams receive an influx of messages every day. You want to get your point across quickly.
I consider the second paragraph to be the most important in the introductory email. This is where you're going to share with the brand (1) how you came across them, (2) how their values align with yours (give specific examples here, for instance, does the brand champion a cause you care about? Did you learn something from a post or an article they published?), (3) ways in which you have supported them, so a simple sentence such as "I have featured your brand on my stories in the past" would suffice. If you have a stunning feature of them, you could also hyperlink the word feature in that paragraph just so there's a quick example there for them.
What would you like to do for them? This is where you would state your interest in promoting them. You can include one sentence on what you are bringing to the table. Do you do something particularly well? Voiceovers? Storytelling? "I would love to promote you on [include channel]. One of my strengths is [include strength] and I would love to bring this to your brand. Would your [brand name] find this helpful?"
People forget to include basic statistics. You don't have to but I find this part is important, especially for consideration in paid campaigns. Include your reach and impressions for the past 7 days. Include your engagement rate and number of followers.
One sentence stating that you are looking forward to hearing from them soon.
